This is the type of post that Charlee will most likely be totally embarrassed about. She’ll likely say something along the lines of, “Oh my gosh, MOM! Why did you tell the whole world about my toilet behavior?!” And then I’ll smile and laugh and respond with something like, “Because that’s what moms do, okay?”. I can see it now….
Anyways, YOU GUYS. I’m so beyond excited about the week we’ve had. A little backstory – Justin and I agreed that we wouldn’t push Charlee into potty training; we figured that she would let us know when she was ready and we would take her lead. Well, a certain husband (not mentioning any names) was starting to get a little impatient and quite frankly, was sick of buying diapers and Diaper Genie refills (I can’t blame him, those buggers are expensive). Charlee has used the potty off and on for the last few months but always requested to have a diaper put back on when she had an accident and became easily discouraged. Well last weekend, we decided that since we are pretty much completely settled in the new house and didn’t have much on the books in terms of scheduled activities for the week, we would put Charlee in big girl panties on Monday and see how long we could stick to it.
When she woke up that morning, we immediately put her in panties and told her that she’d be using her big girl potty all day and that she would only get her diaper at night. She agreed, especially after incorporating a mini marshmallow reward for successful potty breaks!
She went the entire day without a single accident. And then the next day we even ventured out to the movie theater to watch SING and do some shopping afterwards – no accidents. Wednesday she had two accidents back to back. Thursday – zero accidents. Friday, Saturday & Sunday – absolutely no accidents!
Once we saw that things were going well, we asked Charlee what she wanted to do at the end of the week to celebrate and to show her how proud we were of her, she promptly replied, “ICE CREAM! Ice cream party!”. Everyday, we would talk about what kind of toppings we would have, the decorations, how Papa & Gaga were going to come celebrate her potty training success – she was beyond excited!
So today we put up some decorations, had a cookout with my parents and finished with a delicious ice cream sundae bar, complete with toppings and ice cream that Charlee picked out. We played Trolls songs, danced and just had a complete blast. You could sense just how proud Charlee was of herself and we definitely let her know how proud we are of her.
I am so thrilled that something that I was SO nervous about, has turned out amazingly well. I’ve heard horror stories and have seen first hand how hard it can be but, thankfully, Charlee surprised me. I know we may not be completely out of the woods yet but I am feeling pretty confident that diapers are a thing of the past…well until I’m crazy enough to have baby #2 (which don’t get your hopes up, I’m totally fine with just my sweet Charlee right now!).
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Talk soon, okay?
