I have to share the most delicious and reasonably healthy double chocolate banana applesauce cake with you! Last week, I found that I had a few bananas that were headed for the trash and I really wanted to make something with them. Being 7.5 months pregnant, it HAD to involve chocolate 😉
I searched all over Pinterest for a chocolate banana cake recipe that didn’t have a ton of garbage ingredients but still wanted it to taste good. I hit the jackpot, y’all!
I made just a couple of changes based on what I had on hand and the cake still turned out wonderfully fudgy, moist and absolutely delicious. So good in fact, that I had to make a second batch! The second time around I put the batter into a muffin tin to make yummy muffins to freeze and have on hand when a chocolate craving strikes!
- I used whole wheat flour instead of all purpose
- I only had blueberry applesauce on hand and substituted it for plain. You couldn’t taste the difference!
My husband gets excited when he sees and smells something baking in the kitchen but will quickly change his tune when he realizes that it’s a healthy recipe or something that I’m experimenting with. After trying it and realizing just how great it turned out, he tasted it and loved it! His exact words were, “I’d rather eat that than a brownie”. And if you know my husband, you may know that he LOVES brownies. I’d call this recipe a win for sure!
Head on over to Super Healthy Kids here, to check out the recipe! You won’t regret it, I promise. Kid, preggo and husband approved! 🙂
