You know what you are? AWESOME! (I’m sure you guessed that, based on the title of this blog – you’re also pretty smart and cool and interesting and lovely based on the fact that you’ve found my blog) 😉
Now that we have all of that established, let’s move on. Are you a parent? If so, then take a moment to pat yourself on the back. Really, do it now! Reach that tired, overworked hand right around your neck and across your shoulder and give that aching back a nice little pat. I’ll wait…
You’re all done? Good. I just want you to know, as a fellow parent, that I know how hard it is. I know that you are probably experiencing sleepless nights, piles of laundry and a sink full of 476 dishes (and that’s just from breakfast alone!). I know that you have little ones depending on you for every “I love you”, every kissed boo-boo, every word of encouragement, every meal, bath, change of clothes and brushed hair. It’s not easy being a parent. To care for another human (or multiple humans), to put yourself last, to not shower, eat, sleep or even go potty on a normal schedule – it’s rough! But you know what? You’re killing this whole parenting thing! Really, you are! You may have days when you don’t feel like it and you may have people who make you feel pretty low but you know what? You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life. You have children who love and adore you. Children who center their whole lives around you (until they hit teenage years, I’m told that that’s when things may change 😉 ).
If you’re having a bad day, a bad week, a bad year…brush yourself off, don’t be too hard on yourself and KEEP GOING. A bad day doesn’t mean a bad life and I think sometimes people need to be reminded of that (myself included). So wrap your tired, achy arms around those sweet little bundles of joy and enjoy the moment. Fill your life with those who matter and do things that matter most.
And if all else fails….there’s this! #ParentOn 😉
